Project Summary

Nettles installed 18 elevator smoke curtains in Leawood Village Apartments, to contain smoke in the event of a fire and prevent it from spreading to other floors.

The Problem

In the event of a fire, smoke curtains are essential for protecting both people and infrastructure. Elevator smoke curtains drop automatically when a fire alarm is triggered. Leawood Village, a luxury apartment complex in Kansas, needed an effective, reliable elevator smoke containment system for their building.

The Nettles Solution

The Nettles team installed 18 elevator smoke curtains in the building. DSI – 600 smoke containment systems are reliable, cost-effective, and meet section 901 code requirements.

The smoke curtains are made of fire-resistant fabric. They contain smoke within the elevator shaft and prevent it from spreading to other floors. After the alarm turns off, the curtain automatically rises into its concealed housing. There is also both a button and a manual handle to raise the curtain after deployment.

We were able to install the smoke curtains and conceal them in compact housing, meaning they are virtually invisible before being deployed. We completed the project on schedule and on budget.

"This was a great project to work on. We were able to collaborate well with the GC and other stakeholders, and make the building safer in case of disaster."
