The Nettles Construction Solutions commercial fireproofing team is excited to announce that in 2025, we are expanding our spray-applied fireproofing services to the Texas region! We have decades of fireproofing experience in Kansas City and the Midwest. Learn more about how we can help Texas contractors improve building safety and save time and money on their project.
Types of fireproofing we install in Texas
We have expertise in two types of spray applied fireproofing: cementitious spray and intumescent paint.
Cementitious fireproofing is a mix of gypsum or portland cement. Once sprayed, it hardens into a foam-like texture with the insulating properties of cement. Intumescent fireproofing has the appearance of a layer of paint, but swells to greater thickness in fire situations, insulating and protecting the building’s structural steel members.
Our experts can consult on which type of fireproofing is best for your project. Typically, intumescent fireproofing is more expensive but also more aesthetically pleasing, with a clean, smooth surface that can be finished with a variety of topcoats.
Why is fireproofing important for Texas construction?
Many commercial and residential buildings, including schools and hospitals, are required to meet specific fire ratings governed by the International Building Code (IBC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and local city codes. You can find resources for Houston’s fire codes here–but most commercial construction requires at least a 1-hour fire rating.
Cementitious or intumescent fireproofing is one of the most reliable and cost-effective ways to achieve the required fire ratings for your construction. Depending on the thickness of the material, both types of fireproofing can achieve 1-4 hour fire ratings.
How Texas contractors can save time and money with Nettles fireproofing
We are already a leading subcontractor and installer of roof deck systems and gypsum floor underlayment in the Houston area and throughout Texas. By partnering with a single contractor who can handle roof decks, flooring, and fireproofing, you can streamline scheduling and coordination. We are bringing our expert fireproofing team to Texas to help our customers save time, money, and energy and reduce the headaches of coordinating with multiple subcontractors.
How to bundle fireproofing with roof deck or gypsum floor installation
For Texas hotels, schools, or multi-family structures, fireproofing can be combined with roof deck or gypsum work. On roof decks, cementitious fireproofing can be sprayed as soon as the roof is installed. Intumescent paint can be applied anytime, as long as the building slab is complete. For gypsum floors, fireproofing should be installed before the gypsum is poured.
Our team can help streamline your project scheduling and maximize efficiency by bundling fireproofing with our roof deck or floor services.
